Sweet Toddler Summer

Sweet , summertime.
It's finally here.
But the definition of what makes it so sweet varies immensely for different people.
When I was in my late teens early 20s...
I lived for summer nights.
A different concert every weekend.
I spent the entire day by the pool.
Tanning was my goal.
Reading books on a float.
Not a care in the world.
But boy, have times changed.
My summer is now run by toddlers.
Handprints in rainbow colored chalk
Water table tea parties
Perfectly placed tan lines in the sweet arm and leg rolls
Pink chubby cheeks
Stylin' heart shaped shades
Oh so many bubbles
Making disgusting mudpies
Fighting over water guns
Water painting the fence
Skinned knees and Pj Masks bandaids
Waiting patiently for our tomatoes to turn red
Dirty sandbox feet
Waterhose showers
Trips to the pool with puddle jumpers in tow
Sunscreen Sunscreen Sunscreen
Swimsuits with ruffles
And don't forget the swim diapers!
I really thought I was living the life all those years ago.
And I was, for that phase of life.
But I never knew just how much I could enjoy a summer with three sun loving toddlers.
Sure, I may have traded jello shots for popsicles.
Those summer nights now have an 8pm bedtime.
And my Texas Country jams have been taken over by Baby Shark.
But I wouldn't change it for the world.
So here's to Summer 2019.
I'll be spending it by the plastic pool in the backyard... surrounded by my favorites.
