The not so LOL moments

“Silence is golden, unless you have a toddler…then it’s suspicious.”

One of the truest statements EVER.

This morning, I was cleaning and refilling bottles…

No more than 5 minutes, tops.

And I noticed a very rare occurrence… silence.

<side note: we are staying at my parents’ house while Daddy is gone for training classes…which only means there is new territory for the girls to discover and get into>

When I started calling the girls’ names and only heard hysterical laughter,

my walk turned to a run.

I peeked around the corner and found my two menacing toddlers knee deep in nothing but trouble.

The roll of toilet paper was emptied into a huge mountain on the floor.

Another full roll was sunk in the toilet.

A metal flamingo and stuffed Big Duck were in the bathtub;

“Taking a bath!” according to Mikah.

And both of my little toddler girls had hands full of baby soap to wash the birds

(and the floor, and the bath tub, and the rug) clean.

I couldn’t decide whether to yell at my mischievous children,

cry because of the lovely mess I would be cleaning,

or simply laugh at their excited smiles.

I held my stern face as best I could

(Turning around to hide my giggles)

And marched the little trouble makers out of the crime scene.

Hovering over the line

of being a mad, mean mom,

or laughing out loud,

happens much too often.

Toddlers are meddling little creatures.

And some of their actions are just too much.

I have oh so many moments where my first instinct is to die laughing...

Daily, I get to enjoy dramatic, end of the world tantrums.

Or I tell one of my little girls that I’m going to “pop pop” and watch them continue their escapade and smile with no fear whatsoever.

Do you have a beautiful masterpiece (drawn by your toddler) on your wall?

Have you ever watched someone turn a bag of chips upside down and watch every single last crumb fall to the ground?

This list could go on and on.

But despite their constant amusement,

I have to pull the parent card.

Life with toddlers can be like a comedy show.

Yet I know laughing at their hilarious situations only encourage them.

Luckily, parents can be really great actors.

So I do my best to play the part of a mature, strict, adult.

<but I also sneak a quick photo>

That way, when these little toddlers are grown,

we can laugh at these crazy moments together.
